The Man With Green Blood!?

While operating on a 42 year old man, Canadian surgeons were surprised to find that the patient had dark green blood.  

Analysis of the blood revealed that the discolouration of his blood was due to sulfhemoglobinemia – which can happen when a sulphur atom becomes attached to the protein haemoglobin in the blood, that normally carries around an oxygen molecule.   

The attachment of the sulphur molecule and the subsequent change in colour of his blood was caused by the patient’s migraine medication, sumatriptan, which happens to contain a sulphur group.  

After this discovery of green coloured blood, the patient ceased his migraine medication and his blood colour returned to normal within five weeks. While this condition usually goes away when the red blood cells turn over and regenerate, in severe cases a transfusion may be necessary.  

This shows us yet another adverse effect of today’s modern medical “miracles”.  

In the USA headaches are so common that Americans pay more that $1 Billion every year to have relief from migraines.    

However, the problem lies after taking the medication, as pills cause as many problems as they solve, if not more.  

Not only do they have the potential to turn your blood to green, but some headache medication can then give you a “medication overuse headache” or even a withdrawal headache when you stop its use. Why would we take a headache pill that gives us a headache?  

This situation is totally avoidable as there are so many simple, inexpensive and effective alternatives.They are completely safe as well, so there is no need to risk these strange side effects because there are plenty of natural remedies for migraine sufferers.   Most migraines seem to have a food based reaction, usually relating to wheat, dairy, sugar or artificial preservatives, so eliminating these things from your diet could be the first step to becoming migraine free.
