Preconception Care

An outstanding one in six couples experiences conception difficulties for various reasons which can include radiation, toxicity, pollution, stress, age, infections, poor immune system, drugs and poor diet and nutrition.  Some of these problems can be looked at and be improved upon to assist the couple conceive.

Both the male and female must not be active in drug taking.  Should the couple involved with a drug lifestyle become pregnant, this can greatly affect the foetus and chance of miscarriage.

The diet must be healthy (Stoneage Nutrition) and provide the essential nutrients which will produce healthy sperm and eggs.  Organic foods are the best choice, as is drinking filtered water which eradicates any metals and chemicals from the liquid.  It is best to avoid salt, caffeine and sugar where possible.  Three serves of vegetable protein per day is recommended as this group, along with EFA – essential fatty acid, are the most important nutrients at this stage.  Smoking and alcohol must be completely cut from the diet.

It is important to avoid exposure to any chemicals or toxins such as cleaning products, paints, glues etc, as well as radiation including that from x-rays, microwaves, mobile phones and computer screens.

Zinc is singly the most important mineral for the reproductive health of the male.  It ensures a quality and healthy sperm count.

For the females, selenium, chromium and magnesium should be taken daily as it reduces stress, anxiety and fatigue.  Also essential fatty acid intake must be adequate.  It may help to take marine lipid supplements.

Three hours of exercise per week will reduce stress and increase pelvic circulation, both aiding in promoting conception.  This will also maintain weight, as this is a factor in conceiving.  The chance of birth defects increase with those who are overweight.  On the other hand, being underweight can impair organ development and increase the baby’s susceptibility to disease.

This care regime should begin approximately six months prior to conception attempts.
